Libero il Baccaneer: pagato il riscatto ha lasciato la Somalia

Dunque finalmente il rimorchiatore italiano Buccaneer, sequestrato l’11 aprile dai pirati somali è stato liberato assieme al suo equipaggio: 10 connazionali, cinque rumeni e un croato. A Roma il ministro degli esteri, Franco Frattini, ha sostenuto che non è stato pagato alcun riscatto. I pirati, raggiunti a bordo, ieri sera, prima di rilasciare nave ed equipaggio, avevano invece raccontato che stavano contando 4 milioni di dollari.

Secondo quanto riferito ad Africa ExPress da Andrew Mwangura, che da Mombasa, in Kenya, coordina il monitoraggio delle acque dell’Oceano Indiano attraverso l’organizzazione East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme,  “è stato pagato un riscatto che va da 4 a 5 milioni di dollari”.

Ecoterra un altro autorevole gruppo, impegnato a seguire le azioni dei pirati somali, scrive sul suo notiziario che già alcune settimane fa i bucanieri hanno ricevuto 250 mila dollari a patto che non parlassero più con i giornalisti.

Ecco probabilmente perché il telefono satellitare di bordo è stato spento e sono stati attivati nuovi numeri di cellulare con cui le autorità italiane hanno tenuto i contatti con i rapitori.

Festa grande a bordo del Buccaneer – dove l’equipaggio ha finalmente mangiato un pasto decente portato a bordo dagli ufficiali italiani dalla nave militare San Giorgio che per tutto questo tempo è stata di vedetta poco lontano dal rimorchiatore sequestrato – ma festa grande a che a Las Qorey, il villaggio di pescatori dove vivono i pirati, tornati a terra con il loro riscatto.

Conferma un alto funzionario del governo del Puntland, la regione semiautonoma del nord della Somalia. “Senza il pagamento di una forte somma i pirati non sarebbero mai stati convinti a rilasciare nave ed equipaggio. Ha sbagliato il governo italiano a pagare. Così la pirateria non si sconfigge e ogni riscatto pagato inventiva altri pescatori a cambiare mestiere e trasformarsi in banditi del mare. Rende molto di più”.
